Premium grade horticultural charcoal soil amendment. Horticultural charcoal helps provide a cleaner, healthier rooting media for many plants. It improves drainage and absorbs impurities, as well as providing increased surface area for the colonization of beneficial bacteria. Charcoal can help to reduce or eliminate odors. Often used in terrarium construction to improve the overall health and drainage of the substrate. Horticultural charcoal is also used as culturing media for springtails.
We use and recommend horticultural charcoal for any plants that need an airy rooting media. Epiphytes, lithophytes, nepenthes, jewel orchids, and more perform well with an addition of charcoal to their soil or potting mix. Blending recipes vary depending on the application, but in general, 1 part charcoal to 5 parts soil is a good starting point.
